NL Een openluchtvertoning in samenwerking met Tweede Nassau Ateliers! Kom films kijken in het gebouw waar de atelierscènes uit Turks Fruit werden opgenomen. Ook is er een mal te zien van een sculptuur die een belangrijke rol speelde in de film A Clockwork Orange van Stanley Kubrick.
De hoofdfilm van deze avond is Waar de Ratten Koning Zijn: een documentaire over de rebelse jaren tachtig in de Staatsliedenbuurt, onze buurt. Daarnaast zullen we ook een selectie korte films vertonen, en is regisseur Barbara van den Uyl aanwezig voor een Q&A na afloop.
EN Filmhuis Cavia presents an outdoor screening in collaboration with Tweede Nassau Ateliers! Come and watch films in the building where the studio scenes from Turks Fruit were shot. Also to be seen is a mold for the sculpture that played an important role in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange.
The main film of the evening is Waar de Ratten Koning zijn (Where the Rats Are King): a documentary about the rebellious eighties in Staatsliedenbuurt, our neighbourhood. There will be English subtitles. Besides that we will also show a selection of short films, and there will be a Q&A with director Barbara van den Uyl afterwards.

NL De Amsterdamse Staatsliedenbuurt was een soort vrijstaat waar krakers, punkers en oorspronkelijke buurtbewoners samen de dienst uitmaakten. Het gezag van de gemeente was tot vrijwel nul gereduceerd toen burgemeester Van Thijn eind 1984 hardhandig de buurt werd uitgezet. Barbara den Uyl, zelf een van de bewoners van de Staatsliedenbuurt, filmde ruim een jaar lang hoe de bewoners hun strijd met het systeem uitvochten. Een strijd die zich niet beperkte tot huisvestingsproblemen, maar ook over neo-nazi’s, gevangenen en de Paus ging.
EN The Amsterdam Staatsliedenbuurt was a kind of free state where squatters, punks and original local residents together laid down the laws. The authority of the municipality was reduced to almost zero since Mayor Van Thijn was brutally evicted from the neighbourhood at the end of '84. Barbara den Uyl, herself one of the residents of the Staatsliedenbuurt, filmed for more than a year how the residents fought out their struggle with the system. A battle that was not limited to housing problems, but also about neo-Nazis, prisoners and the Pope.
