NL Twee films om ons nieuwe seizoen te starten: ten eerste brengt de lokale Amsterdamse filmmaker Misho Antadze ons The Harvest. We leren dat Georgië, dat niet zo lang geleden dagelijks te maken had met stroomuitval, een van de grootste exporteurs van Bitcoin ter wereld is. Een land dat normaal bekend staat om zijn wijn houdt zich bezig met hightech kapitalisme. In de landelijke wijnstreek Kakheti komen beelden van ontwikkelingscontraditie naar voren: druiven groeien en koeien grazen tussen zendmasten, paardenkarren worden getrokken langs schuren vol met computerservers en voeden de speculatie-economie. Een observationele documentaire die de politiek van het landschap onderzoekt.
EN Two films to kick off our new season: First, local Amsterdam filmmaker Misho Antadze brings us The Harvest. We learn Georgia, that not too long ago suffered daily power outages, is one of the largest exporters of Bitcoin in the world. A country normally known for its wine engages in high-tech capitalism. In the rural wine region of Kakheti, images of developmental contradiction come to the fore: Grapes grow and cows graze among transmission towers, horse carts are drawn past barns full of computer servers, feeding the speculation economy. An observational documentary that examines the politics of the landscape.

NL Un Amour d’été is als een tedere kus aan het einde van de zomer. Een portret van geliefden, 's nachts in Parc du Mont Royal, een van Montréals bekendste parken en dat uitkijkt over de stad. Stellen liggen in het gras en hangen rond, picknickend tot in de laatste uurtjes. Lichamen naderen elkaar, gezichten veranderen. Felle neonlichten schijnen door de duisternis terwijl kolossale bomen dienen als bescherming voor de geliefden. Je dwaalt van het samenzijn van groepen naar samenzijn van pril verliefde stelletjes, nooit helemaal in staat om van deze liefdeskoorts te genieten, of dit magisch gevoel te begrijpen. Je wilt hun verwondering voelen, het volgende moment glipt het door je vingers. Ze praten, dansen en zoenen – een zeer sensuele ervaring.
EN Un Amour d’éte is like a tender kiss to the end of summer. A portrait of lovers at night atop the Parc du Mont Royal in Montreal, that overlooks the city. Couples lay in the grass and linger in after-hours picnics, bodies move in closer, expressions transform. Bright neon lights shine through the darkness while colossal trees serve as cover for the lovers. You roam from gatherings to budding couples, never quite able to savour this fever, or hold it in your arms. You want to feel their wonderment, the next moment it slips through your fingers. They talk, dance and kiss – it’s a thoroughly sensuous experience.

NL Pung Jeong Gak is een hedendaagse dansfilm van choreografe Joowoon Song (Zuid-Korea). In de film verbindt Song zorgvuldig geënsceneerde bewegingen met buurten in Seoul die in de naam van stads-herontwikkeling ter dood zijn veroordeeld. Dansers dwalen als geesten door buurten al denkend aan de sporen van het leven. Pung Jeong Gak is een poging om de herinneringen van een buurt the ontdekken in de taal van vandaag. De film continueert de discussie over een fragiele buurt in het hart van Seoul, met in de achtergrond het neoliberale stadsbeleid van hedendaags Seoul.
EN Pung Jeong Gak is a site specific contemporary dance film by choreographer Joowon Song (South-Korea). In the films Song connects carefully choreographed gestures and urban surrounding of neighbourhoods in Seoul that are sentenced to death in the name of urban redevelopment. Dancers roam about in the neighborhood or the house like a ghost, remembering the trace of life. Pung Jeong Gak attempts to discover the site’s memories in today’s language and continue conversations about a frail neighborhood in the heart of Seoul, shadowed by the ultra urban.

NL Distant Constellation is een poëtische documentaire, een contemplatieve essay over tijd, ouderdom, verlies en verlangen. Shevaun Mizrahi bezocht in de loop van de jaren een bejaardenhuis in Istanbul, ze ontmoette de inwoners en liet ze aan het woord. De zeer verfijnde en stille blik van deze film bereikt een betoverend gevoel voor het menselijke, een acceptatie van tijd en de levenscyclus. Het is een prachtige film en het is moeilijk om onverschillig te blijven.
De producent Deniz Buga zal aanwezig zijn om na de film in gesprek te gaan met ons.
EN Distant Constellation is a poetical documentary, a contemplative essay on time, age, loss and desire. Shevaun Mizrahi visited throughout the years a retirement home in Istanbul; she met the residents and let them speak. The very refined and quiet gaze of this film achieves an enchanting sensibility for the human experience, an acceptance of time and the cycle of life. This is a beautiful work and it is hard to remain indifferent.

De hoofdfilm van deze avond is Waar de Ratten Koning Zijn: een documentaire over de rebelse jaren tachtig in de Staatsliedenbuurt. Sleeping Lions - An evening with Anneke Kampman
NL Anneke Kampman (Edinburgh, 1986) is een kunstenares die met tekst, muziek en bewegend beeld werkt. Haar werk onderzoekt hoe de cultuurindustrie een ‘persoonlijkheid’ creëert, puur en alleen voor een winstoogmerk. Het richt zich op zaken als standaardisatie, reproductie en artistieke vrijheid binnen de popindustrie. Het programma bestaat uit drie videowerken van Kampman: een online archief van drieënveertig videoclips georganiseerd rondom dertien historische gebeurtenissen; een essayistisch onderzoek naar de productie en kapitalisatie van verlangen; en een popmuziekvideo die de tegenstrijdigheden van commodificatie laat zien.
EN Anneke Kampman (b.1986. Edinburgh, Scotland) is an artist working with text, music and moving image. Her works examine the manner in which the culture industry produces ‘personality’ for purposes of profit, addressing issues of standardisation, reproduction and artistic autonomy within the global circulation of popular music. The program consists of three video works by Kampman: an online archive of forty-three video clips organised around thirteen historical events; an essayistic exploration on the production and capitalisation of desire; and a pop-promo staging contradictions of commodification, respectively.

NL Cineast, kunstenaar en provocateur Pierre Méréjkowsky zegt over zichzelf “Ik zie mezelf het liefst als een actieve kunstenaar die werkt als een opslagplaats van ideeën en vormen die onze ruimte en tijd passeren. In die zin is het mijn ‘werk’ een systeem te zijn rond de agora die vertoningen van mijn films zijn.”
De films zijn voedsel voor de geest! Er zal daarna een levendige discussie ontstaan rond de films, met een Q&A met Pierre Méréjkowsky. Daarnaast heeft Pierre aangekondigd dat er een verrassingshappening zal plaatsvinden!!
